In a closed tray transfer, a transfer coping is placed on top of the implant, and a closed-tray impression copings are screwed into the transfer coping. Once the impression material has set, the impression copings are removed with the transfer coping still attached, and sent to the laboratory.

Closed-tray transfer is a dental implant technique that has several distinctive features. Firstly, it involves the use of an impression coping that is attached to the implant fixture and remains in place during the impression making process. Secondly, the impression coping is protected by a tray that fits over the implant and ensures accurate transfer of the implant position to the dental laboratory. Thirdly, the closed-tray transfer technique eliminates the need for laboratory analogs, reducing the risk of errors and inaccuracies. Finally, closed-tray transfer ensures precise replication of the implant position and orientation, leading to better implant prosthesis fit and long-term stability.
